A SOLUTION TO ON-SITE PRODUCED – LABOR INTENSIVE – MANHOLES

2 to 5 % of all manholes in The Netherlands are unique. If they need to be replaced – at the end of their lifetime – this is usually done by a mason. Since the labor shortage for these specialists increases, KWS MJ OOMEN investigated alternative solutions using innovative technologies which were found in 3D printing.
Printing these manholes has many benefits. First of all, the manholes can be measured by the printing equipment and shared with the printer software.

The software generates the model and the sewer pit can be printed – on-site – within 1 to 2 hours, depending on the dimensions of the manhole and the number of pipes/connections. Furthermore, the urban environment is disturbed for a shorter time. Because of the fast curing time of CyBe MORTAR, the road can be closed very soon after printing which means the road is accessible within days instead of weeks.

THE STORY

The manhole can be printed – on-site – within 1 to 2 hours, depending on the dimensions of the manhole and the number of pipes/connections. Because of the fast curing time of CyBe MORTAR, the road can be closed very soon after printing which means the road is accessible within days instead of weeks. 

Since our 3D-concrete printing equipment doesn’t need any molds, every manhole can have a different shape. They original manhole need to be scanned and these data is the input for the software to generate the model and code that the printer will print, the customized solution.

CyBe MORTAR is a high-performance, single-purpose material. Durable in all environments, the mortar is non-metallic, sulfate resistant and no chlorides are added.
