The Robust Villa is the first housing design built from the Lyve by Cybe label. This project used Lyve’s accessible and customizable platform to efficiently produce a home in five weeks and create a business case for the housing shortage crisis in Curaçao.
The challenge
CyBe Construction partnered with Betonindustrie Brievengat to construct the first 3D concrete printed building in the Caribbean and combat the housing shortage crisis in Curaçao. With 80 years of experience in the concrete product market, Betonindustrie Brievengat’s goal was to become a leader in the field of construction innovation in the Caribbean and make affordable and modern living possible for the population of Curaçao by leveraging 3D printed houses.
The design
Before beginning, CyBe worked with Betonindustrie Brievengat to create a balanced business case in which the time and costs of printing were competitive with that of traditional local construction. The project utilized CyBe’s “Lyve by CyBe” design label, a library of printable, customizable, parametric building designs. The project supplied the first opportunity for a partner to build designs from the Lyve collection, demonstrating its accessibility.
The takeaways
With this project, the first 3D printer was sent to Curaçao. CyBe trained the Betonindustrie Brievengat staff and crew to use the printer, special mortar, and associated software. Going forward, Betonindustrie Brievengat plans to use CyBe technologies to concentrate mainly on housing. The project has cemented CyBe’s position as a partner in the construction industry and a provider of technology and solutions.
