CyBe Construction: a Top 250 Scaleup 2023

Being selected in the Top 250 Scaleups, known as the Top 250 Groeibedrijven in Dutch, is a remarkable achievement. It signifies our exceptional growth as a company in the last year. We take great pride in being recognized among the leading high-growth firms (HGFs) in the Netherlands. In this blog, we will delve into what it means to be selected among the Top 250 Scaleups, share insights from the report on the selected companies and industries, and provide our perspective on being part of this collection of top-notch companies.

About Top 250 Scaleups

The Top 250 Scaleups is an annual research publication by the Erasmus Centre for Entrepreneurship in collaboration with nlgroeit. The report provides valuable insights into the Top 250 fastest-growing companies in the Netherlands. It focuses on companies with at least 10 FTEs and stands out from other lists by addressing both their absolute and relative growth. This comprehensive approach allows for a better understanding of the entrepreneurial landscape and highlights the significant achievements of HGFs. Additionally, it analyzes the companies included in the report, providing interesting statistics such as company age, location, industry, and sustainability. This analysis offers an accessible overview of trends within the HGFs in the Netherlands.

Differentiating the Top 250 Scaleups

Within the Top 250 Scaleups, a distinction is made between high-growth firms (HGFs) and hypergrowers based on their growth thresholds. HGFs are companies that consistently grow by more than 20% annually over a three-year period, while hypergrowers exhibit growth rates exceeding 40%. The high-growth firms and hypergrowers are further divided into companies that are either younger or older than ten years, highlighting the diverse nature of the fastest-growing companies in the Netherlands. HGFs under ten years are called Gazelles, whereas those over ten years are referred to as Mature HGFs. For hypergrowers, companies younger than ten years are known as Scaleups, and those older than ten years are referred to as Superstars. CyBe Construction has shown an average annual growth of 36% over the last three years, which is just four percent below the hypergrower threshold. The 10 year mark was an even nearer miss: the Top 250 Scaleups award ceremony is held in September 2023, while CyBe Construction celebrates its 10 year anniversary in November 2023! Based on the Top 250 Scaleups’ classification, CyBe would fall into the Gazelle category. Coincidentally, we are also nominated for Dutch media institution FD’s Gazellen awards!

Remarkable Observations Top 250 Scaleups’ Statistics

As mentioned before, the Top 250 Scaleups analyzes its companies based on various statistics to provide a comprehensive overview of trends within these companies. Most of these statistics were not too different from what you would expect from 250 fast-growing companies. They were distributed across the country but mainly positioned in business areas. They had an average age of around 13 years, with the lower and upper brackets of age being 4 and 137 years, respectively. They focused on various industries, with Enterprise & Business Software being the most targeted industry. More unexpectedly, there was a notable number of companies dedicated to sustainability, specifically aligned with the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The SDGs are a comprehensive set of global objectives aimed at addressing social, economic, and environmental challenges to achieve a more sustainable and equitable future. The report revealed that only 30% of the companies were actively involved in SDG-entrepreneurship. Typically, high-growth firms are more engaged with SDGs, and companies that align with SDGs tend to experience higher growth rates. However, when compared to a study on Fortune 500 companies, where 55.6% is involved with SDGs (elementary, intermediate, or advanced involvement), the percentage in the Top 250 Scaleups is relatively low. Furthermore, the Top 250 Scaleups tended to focus on a limited number of SDGs, with the most pursued SDG being followed by only 31 out of 250 companies. In contrast, CyBe Construction is committed to addressing 11 different Sustainable Development Goals, as shown in the picture below. At CyBe, we believe that your growth can only be sustained in the long run if your growth is sustainable to begin with.

Sustainable CyBe

At CyBe we don’t just say we focus on Sustainable Development Goals – we actually do. For instance, we strive for continuous improvement in our work processes and materials to reduce climate impact. Our eco-friendly CyBe Mortar currently reduces CO2 emissions by 32% compared to traditional concrete, and our printing process optimizes material usage to minimize waste. We also contribute to sustainable cities and communities by providing affordable housing worldwide. A notable example is our cooperation with SAHIF to address the South African housing crisis. Even life under water is a part of our focus. By printing and placing artificial reefs, we promote the ocean’s biodiversity and protect shorelines from erosion. Our academy provides a learning platform where knowledge can be shared, allowing for accessible, high-quality education. These initiatives, along with numerous others, position CyBe Construction as a trailblazer in sustainable innovation and a committed supporter of the SDGs.

Conclusion

In conclusion, being selected in the Top 250 Scaleups is a testament to the success, growth, and positive impact of companies like CyBe Construction. This achievement highlights our commitment to innovation, sustainability, and addressing societal challenges. As we continue on our growth journey, we remain dedicated to our philosophy. We believe that pursuing the Sustainable Development Goals will not only contribute to a better world but also result in stronger and more sustainable growth for our company. We recognize the importance of connection and collaboration within the entrepreneurial ecosystem, and we are eagerly looking forward to meeting other Top 250 Scaleups during the award ceremony in September!
